Mercer won Saturday against Wofford 31-17, continuing the trend of teams denying Wofford any wins this season. The win moved the Bears up to 3-2 against Southern Conference opponents, while the Terriers languish at the bottom of the Conference table with a 0-5 record.

A team of Mercer students are working on a research project that aims to tell the story of Mercer’s queer history. The project is temporarily titled “We are Here!” and is a partnership between Common Ground (Mercer’s official LGBTQ+ and Ally organization) and the University Archives.

The 2023 theme for Mercers Homecoming festivities has been announced by Quadworks. This year is themed “Toby Tunes” and will be styled around cartoons and animation, as according to Mercer's Quadworks Campus Activity Board, which organizes Mercer’s Homecoming.

Mercer lost at home on Saturday, falling to 20th-ranked Chattanooga, 22-10. The result moved Mercer’s overall record to 4-3, 2-2 in the Southern Conference, while Chattanooga is 5-2, and 4-1 in the SoCon.

Mercer’s women's volleyball team is approaching the Southern Conference playoffs, coming up in mid-November. The team stands at a 9-9 overall record, going 5-2 against other SoCon opponents.

On Aug. 25, the Office of Student Affairs announced that due to driver shortages, the Macon Transit Authority (MTA) bus service would not be in operation for Mercer students until further notice. Prior to the announcement, the service transported students to different locations in Macon, including downtown and various grocery stores.

This fall marks Washington Memorial Library’s 100th anniversary. The library will kick off the celebration on Nov. 9 with an opening birthday party, followed by a year of monthly challenges ending in October 2024.

Mercer grabbed an away win on Saturday, beating Eastern Tennessee State University for the first time while on the road, 24-6. The win puts Mercer at a 4-2 record on the season, and a 2-1 record in the SoCon, which puts them fourth in the standings.

On Sept. 29, in order to fulfill the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, Mercer University released to students a copy of the 2023 Campus Crime report, which covers statistics from the 2022 calendar year. The University also released information to help students access the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's (GBI) sex offender registry.

Mercer’s biology department recently unveiled a new curriculum for the undergraduate biology major. The transition includes modifications of many introductory and intermediate level biology classes, the addition of new courses, the implementation of a programming component for several labs and changes in the course load for biology and biochemistry majors.

A gnat infestation at the University Center is causing widespread complaints among students. The bug problem has persisted for over a week, causing several students to avoid the University Center altogether.

Behind the tap handles and frothy mugs, Ol’ Toby Easy Ale made its debut on Sept. 9 at Five Star Stadium. The beverage is now recognized as Mercer Athletics' official beer, carefully crafted with the expertise of Mercer alumna, Kaitlynn Kressin ‘15.

Mercer won its first SoCon game of the season on Saturday when it took on the Virginia Military Institute over family weekend. The Bears came out on top, 38-3, after a strong show from their defense, as well as big-yardage plays from their offense and special teams.

Late last school year, Auxiliary Services added neon green signs to the three-way stop at the top of the hill between the Auxiliary Services building, the Medical School parking lot and the parking lot behind the first-year dorms. Mercer Police Chief Gary Collins said there was real danger and they knew a change had to happen.

Mercer’s men’s soccer team is opening up their conference games this week against Virginia Military Institute this Saturday at 1 p.m. Since the first game of the season, the team has not lost.

The new Crisis Stabilization Diagnostic Center for middle Georgia broke ground on Sept. 20 in downtown Macon. The center will be the first of its kind in Georgia to handle behavioral health crises exclusively for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
