Love is in the air this Valentine's with these Mercer couples

Roses are red, violets are blue, these Bears are in love, and it's just so cute!

In celebration of Valentine's Day, staff photographer Lux Corrona captured the happy couples of Mercer and asked them about their relationships. From college sweethearts to long-distance beaus, it's certain that their holiday will be spent with the ones they love.

Emma and Will

Valentine’s day is special every year for Emma Ellis and Will Nash, who have been together now for three and a half years, because they find something new to do each year.

Emma says she likes how adventurous he is. “She helps me find the best in myself,” says Will.

Spencer and Jordan

This Valentine’s Day is special for Spencer Decuyr and Jordan Leet because it marks the two-year anniversary of Jordan telling Spencer that she loves him.

Spencer says he loves Jordan’s spirit: “She’s able to bring me out of the lowest of places, and she always makes me feel like a better human being even when I feel like I don’t deserve it.”

“He challenges me in the best ways that he can,” Jordan said. “He always makes me want to be a better person because I see everything that he does. He always treats everyone with so much kindness and so much love.”

Raven and Aaron

Raven Wren and Aaron Coleman will have been together for three years this coming March.

“I like how he’s honest and makes me laugh,” Raven said. Aaron says that he likes how she’s always smiling.

Marylou and Taelor

Marylou Southerland, a Mercer student, FaceTimes her long-distance girlfriend Taelor Daugherty who attends Agnes Scott College in Atlanta.

This Valentine's day is special for the two because they’ve been together for four and a half years, and are getting closer to big decisions such as living together in the future. “She makes me feel like myself more than anybody else,” Marylou said. “She has a way of making things beautiful and simple all in one.”

“Marylou is one of the kindest people I know, and not just to me but to everyone,” Taelor said. “I love seeing how you interact with everyone else.”

To celebrate Valentine’s this year, the two took their first trip together to Memphis, Tennessee.

Sasha and Ronald

Sasha Hoppie and Ronald White are excited to spend their first Valentine’s day together this year.

“One thing I really like about Sasha is that she’s very big on communication,” Ronald said. If we ever had a problem, which we rarely do, we can just talk about it and she makes me feel comfortable to share my feelings. She supports me whenever I need it.”

“He’s such a considerate, smart and caring person," Sasha said. "He’s supportive of all that I do, very understanding, and is always there for me."

Charys and Michael

Charys Hogeland and Michael Bowman have been dating for four and a half years.

“I really like how intelligent he is and how he always makes me laugh,” Charys said.

“I really love how at the end of a difficult day I can always come back and have a very happy person there,” Michael said.

Alli and Nic

Alli Malik and Nic Bedi are also celebrating their first Valentine’s together as a couple this year. “She’s very loyal,” says Nic. “She’s always been there for me.”

Pierce and Rebecca

This year is Pierce Mastrion and Rebecca Lawson’s first Valentine’s Day together, and the two are both really excited to spend the day celebrating their relationship.

“You always make me laugh, and I like being together because it makes me feel crazy. We’re both crazy,” Pierce tells Rebecca. He says that he admires how Rebecca makes him break out of his shell and appreciate things. “You always bring a lot of brightness to my day and you make my day fun.”

“One thing I really admire about you is how you’re a very good listener and you have a lot of humility. It really shows in how you treat other people, and through that I learn how to better love people,” Rebecca tells Pierce.
