During the summer break, three Mercer baseball players signed deals with Major League Baseball clubs. Ely Brown ‘27 was drafted by the Chicago White Sox, Bradley Frye ‘25 signed with the San Diego Padres and Colton Cosper ‘25 signed with the New York Mets.
The baseball team ended the 2025 season 35-25 on the season and 12-9 in conference play. Outfielder Brown, shortstop Frye and left handed pitcher Cosper were all key players in the team’s success this past season. Brown started in 15 out of the 32 games he appeared in his freshman year, and hit three home runs this past season. Frye led the team with 12 home runs this year while also achieving a career 200 hits. At the end of the season, he was recognized with the Golden Glove Award for being the SoCon’s Defensive Player of the Year. Cosper earned SoCon All-Tournament Team honors, along with leading the pitchers in win-to-loss ratios based on starts.
Head Coach Craig Gibson is no stranger to coaching professional-level talent. Since coming to Mercer in 2004, the former Bear has seen 31 Mercer players be drafted, signed or promoted to the big leagues.
Nevaeh Wilson '28 is majoring in Journalism and minoring in Film Studies. She has been writing for The Cluster since her freshman year, and has worked for Mercer's ESPN studio. She enjoys watching college and professional sporting events.
