Kimora Williams crowned first Miss NSBWM in pageant show

Mercer’s chapter of the National Society for Black Women in Medicine hosted its first annual Miss NSBWM Pageant, crowning Kimora Williams ‘27 Sunday evening.

A panel of judges scored the contestants in six categories: personal style, career aspirations, talent, cause, beauty and question and answer. Kimora Williams competed against three other women. The remaining pool included Ammarah Turay ‘29, Tia Williams ‘29 and Jordan Spears ‘29.

The audience in Toney Auditorium voted for their favorite pageant queen, awarding Turay with the award. She also received a trophy for best personal style. Judges granted Spears the title of Miss 2027. Tia Williams took the award for Miss Pink and Brown.

“It is February — Black History Month,” NSBWM Director of Fundraising Shaequan Fung ‘27 said. “We just want to celebrate all the beautiful Black girls that are here on this campus and just give them a space where they’re able to be their true authentic self.”

Fung oversaw the three-hour event, which included a dance performance from NeeAli Scott ‘28, founder of MU Motion Moves, and songs from Trinity Scales ‘27 and Serenity Cooper ‘28. The four contestants also had individual performances.

“Backstage was a beautiful chaos,” Fung said. “The quick changes between sets, the girls getting dressed, helping them up the stairs, everything came together wonderfully.”
