Mercer University announced Thursday that Chief of Mercer Police Gary Collins would be retiring Jan. 16. Collins has served as a campus safety and campus police officer since 1983, and helped transform the department beyond campus safety into a fully-fledged police force.

Tonight's panel on the Israel-Palestine conflict garnered more attention than was planned, forcing the organizers to move from the Godsey 103 lecture hall to Willet Auditorium, which was so full that panel attendees filled the upper deck of the auditorium and sat on the steps between the rows of lecture seats.

On Sept. 29, in order to fulfill the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, Mercer University released to students a copy of the 2023 Campus Crime report, which covers statistics from the 2022 calendar year. The University also released information to help students access the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's (GBI) sex offender registry.

Late last school year, Auxiliary Services added neon green signs to the three-way stop at the top of the hill between the Auxiliary Services building, the Medical School parking lot and the parking lot behind the first-year dorms. At a Student Government Association (SGA) Town Hall meeting on Tuesday, new candidates for the first-year, junior and senior classes shared their visions for Mercer’s student community. On Thursday, five of the 11 first-year candidates were elected to SGA Senate by their classmates.

A ransomware group, "Akira," claimed responsibility for a cyberattack against Mercer, according to a tweet published Tuesday. The attack resulted in sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers and driver’s license numbers belonging to Mercer community members being compromised.

Over the past semester and a half, Mercer’s Student Government Association (SGA) has been supporting student organizations and creating opportunities for students to pursue their passions. Student government is made up of a senate, executive officers, and multiple committees, including the powerful Organizational Affairs Committee, which manages student organizations and special funding for those organizations.
