BraggJam, a band battling tradition, wrapped up its final installment of Bragg Jamuary. The battle took place at JBA, a bar in downtown Macon on Jan. 29, as MothaFunka, Sons of Midnite and Red Oaks went toe to toe to determine which would move on to the final round of voting.

This week, Bragg Jam announced Sons of Midnite took home the victory. The band will advance to the final voting round, which ended Wednesday.

“JBA was lit for Sons of Midnite; they seemed to really enjoy the music so much that there were some crowdsurfing,” said Luke Yawn, rhythm guitar and lead vocalist for the winning band.

According to its social media, Sons of Midnite is an alternative rock band that thrives off of pop-punk energy and rock vibes. Its four musicians have known each other since high school and are beginning to find their stride.

Yawn said that preparing for the show was "exciting" for the band because it was something new for the group.

"This was the first competition we’ve ever done, so it was something fresh and new,” he said, adding that the band had a relaxed approach heading to the competition, with the only nerves for this band being “butterflies in the stomach.”

The battles between the bands have taken place weekly throughout January, and the bands receive weeks of preparation and rigorous training to ensure they are at their best when facing off against the other bands.

“It was just us all getting together and jamming, we played four unreleased songs that we haven’t played before live so it was a blast, “ Yawn said of his band's practice routine prior to Bragg Jamuary.

As they look forward to their battle against the next three bands in this final competition, he added the rehearsals will be more important than ever.

“Nose to the grindstone for the final showdown, we’re just gonna get in that zone again and really hammer out these songs” Yarn said.
