The Student Government Association presidential election will head to a runoff election after none of the four tickets were able to secure more than 50% of the vote when polls closed at 5 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.
Presidential candidate Thomas Lubben ‘27 and his vice president pick Weston Summers ‘29 will face presidential candidate and current SGA senators Ceazia Wright ‘27 and Micah Scott ‘27 in the runoff set to start at 9 a.m. Monday morning. Polls will close at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday and the winning ticket will be announced the same day at 6 p.m. in the Connell Student Center lobby.
SGA President Alisha Mitchell '26 said a record 1,234 students cast ballots in the election, marking the highest voter turnout in a student government presidential race.
The Cluster reached out to Lubben for comment but did not immediately hear back from the candidate.
Scott said the moment the results were announced was tense but that he is excited to continue his campaign with Wright as they head into the runoff.
“It was very nerve-racking, and that’s always the case, but we prevailed,” Scott said. “We hope to see students go vote in the runoff.”
