Athletics announces expanding facilities

Mercer Athletics has announced that it will expand its sports facilities in the coming years, adding a baseball performance center, new tailgating areas within Five Star Stadium and a joint tennis and golf facility.

Mercer football falls to South Dakota State

Mercer football’s historic season came to an end in the second round of the FCS Playoffs as they fell to #1 South Dakota State University, 41-0. The Bears’ season ended with a 9-4 record, the team’s greatest number of wins since it was reinstated in 2013, as well as its first-ever berth in the FCS Playoffs.

Bears win first-ever FCS Playoff game

The Mercer Bears football team recorded its first ever victory in the Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs, beating the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs, 17-7, in Macon. The Bulldogs, who were the champions of the Big South Conference, came into the game riding a five-game win streak while Mercer had won six of their last seven contests.

Dogs beat Bears in women's basketball

Mercer’s women’s basketball team hosted the Georgia Bulldogs at Hawkins Arena on Thursday, losing 77-57. With the loss, Mercer falls to 1-3 on the season while UGA improves to 3-1. This was the second home game of the season for the Bears, who won their first home game over Florida Atlantic University, 70-62.

Men's soccer wins SoCon championship

Mercer’s men’s soccer team defeated Furman University 2-0 in Greenville, South Carolina, winning them the Southern Conference championship on Sunday. It was the program’s fifth SoCon championship in seven years.

Football gets eighth win of season

On a rainy Homecoming weekend, the Mercer Bears football team got a little closer to the NCAA FCS playoffs with a win in the 2023 homecoming game against Samford University, 28-21. The game finished out the regular season for the Bears, who ended with a 8-3 overall record and went 6-2 in Southern Conference play.

Bears easily handle The Citadel

Mercer extended its winning streak to three games with a win against The Citadel on Saturday, beating the winless Bulldogs in Charleston, South Carolina, 38-16. The win puts Mercer at third in the Southern Conference with a 5-2 record, and a 7-3 record overall.

Mercer football edges past #10 WCU

The Bears upset no. 10 Western Carolina University on Saturday, beating the Catamounts 45-38. The high-scoring game was Mercer’s first victory against a ranked opponent this season, leaving them at a 6-3 overall record, 4-2 in the SoCon.

Bears record two defensive touchdowns in win

Mercer won Saturday against Wofford 31-17, continuing the trend of teams denying Wofford any wins this season. The win moved the Bears up to 3-2 against Southern Conference opponents, while the Terriers languish at the bottom of the Conference table with a 0-5 record.

Mercer falls at home to Chattanooga

Mercer lost at home on Saturday, falling to 20th-ranked Chattanooga, 22-10. The result moved Mercer’s overall record to 4-3, 2-2 in the Southern Conference, while Chattanooga is 5-2, and 4-1 in the SoCon.

Former walk-on turns defensive stalwart

“He’s a great student, great person. He’s a guy who has some maturity about him,” Head Coach Drew Cronic said about defensive stalwart Ken Standley ‘24 at a recent press conference. “He’s a kid I’ll bring in my office just to ask him what he thinks about stuff cause I think I’m gonna get a mature answer from a person within the program.”

Ty James, strong defense earn Bears win

Mercer grabbed an away win on Saturday, beating Eastern Tennessee State University for the first time while on the road, 24-6. The win puts Mercer at a 4-2 record on the season, and a 2-1 record in the SoCon, which puts them fourth in the standings.
