“I was talking about this with my students in class one day,” Fontenot said. “They asked, ‘Well, what happened to your revolution?’ I said, 'You're part of it.' I'm turning out revolutionaries. So this project is part of my revolution.”
Glitter, laughter and balloons filled Greek Village on Saturday during Fall 2022 Bid Day. The event marked the end of Mercer’s delayed formal recruitment, which started Sept. 5.
Formally known as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, the number is an alternative to 911 for those experiencing a mental health crisis.
“I used to say the project wasn’t successful,” Clarke said. However, a few months ago, this changed.
“Being a Zeta means that I am representing what could be possible for a lot of young Black girls,” Ja’Diyah Shamsiddin said.
“I love seeing students’ eyes light up when they hear or see something new, especially when it relates to the German language,” Edward Weintraut said.
“If you know you want to be a writer, and you're in college, and you can take all the classes and you can major in it, why not do it?”
