The Mercer Student Government Association (SGA) finished its special election cycle this past Saturday, Jan. 25, electing two new senators: Kendall Ross ‘25 for senior senator, and Micah Scott ‘27 for senator at large.

The election results were announced on Saturday via the Mercer SGA Instagram, finally wrapping up an extended election process that was delayed due to various class cancellations brought on by inclement weather.

Voting began on Thursday, Jan. 23, and closed on Friday, Jan. 24, at 5:00 p.m. All Mercer students were sent an email asking them to cast their vote for the senator at large position, while only Mercer seniors could vote on the senior senator position.

Nine potential senators were on the board for the Senator at Large election: Micah Scott ‘27, Tori Noah ‘27, Gabbie Szatkowski ‘26, Conner Khan ‘27, Benjamin Cohen ‘27, Harmony Marks ‘27, Grace Kouassi ‘27, Dylan McCormack ‘27 and Sukhad Pulla ‘27.

Only two potential senators were on the board for the Senior Senator election: Kendall Ross ‘25 and her opponent Dara Bomani ‘25.

This was a special election on a non-traditional schedule. Two vacancies needed to be filled following the graduation of two previous senators in the fall: Christlyn Greene '24, a senior senator on the Student Affairs Committee, and Ivana Opoku '24, a senator at large on the Public Relations and Elections board.

The election was the second special election of the 2024-2025 school year, following a November special election for senior senator, eventually won by Nailah Thorpe ‘25.

The senators were sworn in on Jan. 27 at the SGA meeting.
