A bomb threat called into Willet Science Center on Friday morning has been cleared by Mercer Police, according to University spokesperson Jennifer Fairfield-Williams.
The threat was cleared at 9:43 a.m., Fairfield-Williams said, but the origin of the threat and when it was called into the University is unclear.
This marks the second time this school year that Mercer has received a bomb threat, and the third time that the school has received a threat of any kind. In each of the two previous threats reported on campus this year, a RAVE alert was sent to students, faculty and staff.
RAVE alerts are used by the school to notify the campus body and anyone who is signed up to receive them of emergencies on campus. They are sent out by the administration. This morning's incident did not merit a RAVE alert, Fairfield-Williams said, because the University did not suspect the threat was real.
Mercer is currently hosting prospective students and their families for Presidential Scholars' Weekend. According to the schedules posted on Mercer's website for both parents and students, all guests on campus were scheduled to be in Toney Auditorium at the time that the bomb threat was deemed a false alarm.
