Strong winds are expected to bring snow into Macon over the weekend as temperatures dip into the teens for the third weekend in a row. The winter weather is expected early Saturday morning and should peak in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp announced a state of emergency on Friday due to the expected snow over the weekend. While Macon is predicted to receive an inch of snow, northern and eastern areas are expected to get 3-5 inches.

Meteorologist Ryan Willis from the National Weather Service in Peachtree City warned residents not to leave their homes if they do not have to because roads can become icy.

“Lighter snowfall accumulation can cause issues for drivers as the temperatures fall, making roads dangerous,” Willis said.

With low temperatures likely affecting Monday, Willis said he was uncertain how long it will take for the winter conditions to melt away. He advised residents to take safety precautions before leaving their homes because the temperatures were unlikely to get above 40 degrees before Sunday, and the wind chill will likely put the feels-like temperatures below freezing until Sunday.

“Dress in layers because it will be brutally cold outside,” Willis said.
