The Mercer Bears played the Citadel on Saturday, who came off a big win against last year’s conference champions, Eastern Tennessee State University. Going into the game, the Bears were confident after spending two weeks in practice preparing for the Bulldogs. Coach Drew Cronic spent the bye week getting the team ready for the Bulldog’s triple-option offense and powerful defense.
After addressing a few takeaways from the Auburn game two weeks ago, head football coach Drew Cronic described how he is feeling as his team takes on the Citadel this Saturday. The team and staff are excited to host their first conference game of the season at Five Star Stadium as they take on the Bulldogs, who just defeated Eastern Tennessee State University, the reigning conference champions.

The Mercer community was excited to see what the football team would do against the Auburn University Tigers after last year when they scored twice on the University of Alabama Crimson Tide, despite the odds. Playing a top SEC school has become a tradition for Mercer football and fans have been having a blast with it.
Mercer’s football team kicked off the 2022 season Saturday night in Five Star Stadium and secured their first win over Morehead State University, 63-13.

Beach Volleyball
The Bears were set to play Kennesaw State University for a midweek game on Wednesday, Apr. 6, but the game was canceled. Instead, Mercer hosted Furman University Saturday, Apr. 9 and Sunday, Apr. 10, going 2-1 in the games.
Women’s Tennis

Women’s basketball had their most impressive season in the past three years but fell to the University of Connecticut in the NCAA Tournament 83-38 on March 19.
While students left for spring break, several Mercer sports teams continued to play, including beach volleyball, men's and women's tennis, and softball.
The women's basketball team entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed in the 2022 Southern Conference tournament and played No. 8 Western Carolina University on Mar. 3. Mercer defeated the Catamounts 85-46 and played Samford the next day. With a combined 38 points from Amoria Neal-Tysor and Shannon Titus, the Bears took down the Bulldogs 65-35 and punched a ticket to the SoCon championship game.
The women’s basketball team finished their regular season with a 64-55 win over Samford on Saturday in Birmingham, Alabama.
The Bears continued Southern Conference play with games against Western Carolina University on Thursday, Feb. 10 and the University of North Carolina Greensboro on Saturday, Feb. 12.
The Mercer men’s basketball team played Chattanooga in Tennessee Feb. 5, before playing them again at home Feb. 7. The Bears lost on Saturday 68-77, going 49% from the field, 36% from the three-point line, and 81.8% from the free-throw line as a team.
The Bears faced Samford University at Hawkins Arena on Jan. 29 and defeated the Bulldogs 73-66.
