The Student Government Association's Campus Safety & Improvements Committee (CSI) invited students to join them on a safety walk to explore the university's safety measures and hear concerns about campus conditions on Sept. 29. Committee members Alex Marshall '27, Ben Cohen '27 and Olivia Woodall '28 guided students on the one-hour walk through key areas of campus.

Starting on Cruz Plaza, students and committee members stopped at Greek Village, the Townsend School of Music, Legacy Hall and Knight Hall. Committee members demonstrated how to use emergency blue light phones and their safety features. Students noted that the uneven pavements, cracked sidewalls and loose bricks are potential safety risks.

"When walking around campus, students should always be actively doing a safety walk, and if they see things that are concerning, make a list and tell the committee," attendee Owen Sloan '27 said.

SGA plans to bolster campus safety and accessibility by connecting safety education and student advocacy through dialogue and action. "Being able to see what key areas around campus need improvement helps us as a committee to take the proper next step forward in determining the initiatives we need to pour more funding toward," Alex Marshall '27 said.

The CSI wants students to be active participants in enforcing safety policies and identifying potential new projects for them to tackle. SGA also wants to students to recognize some of the changes that were implemented with help from senators.

"If you like services like Swank and Rapid Transit, it is really important to utilize the student government so that we can continue to give you these resources and many others," Woodall said.
