Ceazia Wright ‘27 and Micah Scott ‘27 won the runoff election for the 2026-27 Student Government Association presidential and vice presidential seats on Tuesday evening. The announcement, made in the Connell Student Center at 5:00 p.m., elicited cheers as SGA President Alisha Mitchell '26 unveiled the banner.
The pair won against Thomas Lubben '27 and Weston Summers '29. It was Lubben's second foray into SGA elections after having lost to Mitchell last year.
"I believe it was in the Lord's hands and we did everything we could do," Lubben told The Cluster. "Unfortunately it didn't go our way, but I'm at peace."
Wright is a kinesiology major on the pre-physician assistant track. The junior class president chairs the Public Relations and Electronics Committee and has served on SGA for two years. Outside of SGA, Wright serves as a Mercer football recruiting assistant and is on the executive board for both MU Runway and Mercer's Organization of Black Students.
Scott is a chemistry major and is minoring in Spanish and math. He has chaired the Student Affairs Committee this year and is a senator-at-large.
“This election has been a test in many ways, all tests that I have successfully passed with the support of my vice president,” Wright said following the announcement.
Scott was also happy with the results. “It was hard but we came out on top and I am very appreciative of everyone who supported us,” he said.
Prior to the runoff and original voting, tickets faced off each other in a presidential debate in Willet Auditorium where candidates were asked questions by SGA's current leadership.
The election cycle was contentious at times. At Monday's weekly SGA meeting, Mitchell, Vice President Callie Lowery '26 and Dean of Students Doug Pearson reminded senators to withhold negative commentary online. Candidates were attacked and, at times, lauded on social media like YikYak, an app which allows users to post anonymous comments.
Mitchell provided The Cluster with results from the general and runoff elections.
