The Interfraternity Council’s annual Bid Day on Sept. 18 marked the end of fall fraternity recruitment and welcomed a new class of members to Mercer University’s IFC fraternities. New members gathered in front of Stetson before running down Greek Row toward the house where they received a bid.
For Alexander Ilyasov ‘30, recruitment offered an opportunity to find a community of students he could relate to at Mercer.
“The brotherhood and just the connections that you make through rush and being able to connect with a lot of people that have the similar majors and similar goals is a huge advantage to me,” Ilyasov said.
While Bid Day marked the beginning of the fraternity experience for new members, James Wall ‘27 from Beta Upsilon Chi reflected on his own experience as he watched another class join Greek Village.
“I think it’s gonna be a great year for everybody,” Wall said. “I’m excited for everybody, from the bottom of the row to the top of the row. It’s a good year for Greek life ahead of us.”
Wall encouraged new members to use their chapters as an opportunity to build relationships and grow throughout college.
“It’s a great way to build yourself and grow as a man,” Wall said. “I would say lean into your chapter, rely on your guys that are in there, and grow as a man. That’s the great thing about fraternity.”
