Keith Holmes Jr. ‘22 is a journalism and creative writing double major who has worked with The Cluster as general staff since his Sophomore year. Keith has received Best in SNO awards for his sports articles along with years of work at Mercer’s ESPN3 branch. Keith spends his free time playing video games and writing fiction around campus.
After teams played through the new 18-week season, only 14 teams have the opportunity to fight for a chance to hoist the Lombardi trophy.
When many Mercer students left campus after Dec. 18, the men's and women's basketball teams stayed to play. Unfortunately for the Bears, the two teams combined for five postponements and cancellations in their games during the break.
This was the final competition of the Fall season for Mercer cross country. The men finished in third place in the conference, the highest they ever have, while the women placed ninth in the conference.
The top seed Bulldogs are moving on to face the Furman Paladins on Nov. 7, but Mercer is watching from home.
The Furman game was an uphill battle from the get-go.
After three ties in the row, Mercer will look to their next game to get back into the win column.
Mercer managed to avoid the shutout, but still lost in a tough blowout against VMI.
Mercer returns home Oct. 16 to take on VMI to extend their 3-0 conference lead.
The team’s next matchup is an Oct. 1 showdown on the road against Western Carolina University.
