Starting anew: Lucas Meinberg's journey as a flautist

After being told to switch instruments in middle school, Lucas Meinberg ‘26, playing the tuba at the time, attempted the sousaphone, which can weigh around 30 pounds and must be carried on the player's shoulder. But at the start of his high school career, Meinberg discovered his love for an instrument outside of the brass family. Meinberg, a little less laboriously than the sousaphone, picked up the flute as a freshman.

A match maid in heaven: Mercer Fencing Club brings costumes to combat

Mercer University’s Fencing Club held a fundraiser involving some of its members who fenced in maid outfits. The fundraiser featured a maid cafe with treats for sale in order to purchase equipment and boost recognition of the team on campus.

'Legacy fulfilled': Sigma Gamma Rho returns to campus after 25 years

Sigma Gamma Rho announced that they have been officially reinstated as an on-campus sorority after 25 years at a neophyte presentation in Toney Auditorium at 6:22 p.m. on Sunday, March 15. Nine students were inducted at the ceremony as official members of the Xi Psi chapter of the sorority.

BearFest brings student body together to celebrate diversity

Braced by transfers, men's hoops plays for semifinal berth Saturday

Mercer returned only four players from last year's men's basketball squad for this year's season, but finished with a 14-1 record at home and a No. 4 seed in the Southern Conference tournament. Today, the team is suiting up for a quarterfinal matchup against Western Carolina University and a chance at advancing to the semifinals for the first time since 2021.

Refurbished Little Free Library lends literature to local readers

The Macon-Bibb County Commission approved naming a block of downtown Macon after the late Mercer alum and NewTown Macon President and CEO Josh Rogers on Nov. 18, 2025 as part of their Macon Action Plan, and unveiled the block on Jan. 22, 2026.

Mercer's new pickleball club serves up interest

A new Mercer organization is hitting the court as a group of students has officially formed a pickleball club this semester to expand the reach of the country's fastest growing sport. The club currently meets at the Tattnall Pickleball Center in Tattnall Square Park, located next to campus, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
