Elkins asks Mercer community to help decide what comes next

Mercer President Penny Elkins will host five public meetings this month to discuss her administration’s vision for the University and gather feedback from students, faculty and staff, according to an email sent Jan. 7. As one of Elkins' first moves as president, she said the discussions are just the first step in crafting her administrative strategy.

With measured breath, Mercer wind ensemble finds its rhythm

Through the front door of the McCorkle Music Building, down the hallway and into the first door on the left, Brittan Braddock stood firm on her podium. Braddock, Mercer's director of bands and coordinator of music education, calmly lifted her baton in front of the Mercer University Wind Ensemble, then brought it down. At her signal, the entire ensemble erupted.

The 'leaders of tomorrow' march with Mercer's ROTC today

At 5:30 a.m., when most of Mercer’s campus is still dark and silent, cadets from the University's Reserve Officers' Training Corps battalion lace up their boots for morning PT, or physical training. As Mercer student continue to sleep across campus, the cadets gather around Kicklighter Hall, which houses the campus’s ROTC program.

Mercer Singers warm up for annual Christmas Tree Lighting

Every December, the Mercer community gathers for a beloved tradition of flickering candles, dazzling decorations and cherished carols in Toney Auditorium. The annual Christmas Tree Lighting, organized by the Student Government Association, brings festive spirit and cheer that kicks off the holiday season on campus and signals an end to the semester.

'Couldn’t do it without them': Students volunteer at Brave Meadows

Rain pattered on the tarp roofs of the chicken coops as goats bleated and more than 150 hens rolled around in their freshly cleaned homes at Brave Meadows Therapeutic Riding Center on Nov. 22. MerServe volunteers drove 30 minutes to Brave Meadows for a workday at the farm where they cleaned and beautified the riding center and the animals’ living spaces.

MU Runway casting kickstarts countdown to spring fashion show

MU Runway, Mercer’s fashion-forward student organization on campus, held casting calls this week for the club's most popular event, the spring fashion show. The club searched for models, makeup artists, hair dressers and crew members. Aspiring models showed off their runway walks and stuck poses in front of MU Runway’s executive committee in Toney Auditorium.

Mercer Young Democrats hosts memorial for gun violence victims

Mercer Young Democrats held a moment of silence, student speeches and prompted a call to action at a memorial for gun violence victims on Tuesday, Nov. 18. About a dozen students attended the service that organizers said was meant to honor victims of gun violence across the United States while also confronting the logistics behind gun control.
